Opening of The Rights Museum : Facilitated by Collapsing Horse's Dan Colley & Larkin (23)
Today marked an extraordinary event for Larkin Community College. Ms O Reilly in 1st year CSPE and Mr Quinn and Ms Mc Kenzie in 2nd year Art helped students to take part in the launch of the first ever Rights Museum in Ireland. The event was launched today by the Ombudsman for Children Dr. Niall Muldoon and Minister Richard Bruton, the Minister for Education, at the National Museum of Ireland.
Helen Beaumont and Lorraine Comer of the Education team at the National Museum welcomed students to the Museum and invited them to exhibit their work for the first ever Rights Museum in Collins Barracks. https://www.museum.ie/Decorative-Arts-History
Dan Colley of Collapsing Horse www.collapsinghorsetheatre.com worked with students to create the Rights Museum. All students looked at the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and chose an Article that resonated with them. They then selected an object that demonstrated this article. Dan curated the objects for the exhibition. The exhibition runs until the 31st May. Go see!
The Ombudsman for Children will be launching a school resource pack in May so that every school in the country can do their own version of the Rights Museum. Check out www.oco.ie for further details.
Mandy O’Neill, our Photographer in Residence in Larkin Community College, took these amazing photos at the launch. Enjoy!
Huge congratulations to all involved in the Rights Museum project and especially to our speakers at the launch; Ciarán Hayden and Isabella Anthony. Well done too to the tour guides at the event, Sheyma Hudson and Isobel Smyth. Sheyma and Isabella played a blinder on the RTE Six One News! Click here for the link!
Thank you to all of our partners: The Ombudsman for Children, The National Museum of Ireland Education Team and Collapsing Horse. A special thanks to Dan Colley for his generosity and vision.
