Launch of Grant Thornton Football Development Programme Report 2023 (100)
This morning we were extremely proud to launch the Grant Thornton report in collaboration with Larkin Community College, on the first year ofthe Football Development Programme, that is a partnership programme with Shelbourne Football Club.
The football development program at Larkin Community College is firmly rooted in the principles of the Junior Cycle, embodying the ideals of engagement and holistic growth. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the core values of the college, and it has allowed us to shift our educational focus from mere instruction to genuine engagement through the avenue of sport.
From the very start of the football program, inclusivity has been at its core. Our goal has never been solely to identify the most talented players, but rather to create a close-knit community of students who share a common passion for sport. Our guiding principle has always been that hard work surpasses talent, and it is in this spirit that we have witnessed our students' unwavering commitment to early morning yoga with Michael Darragh, meditation with Ms. O’Higgins, strength and conditioning sessions with Derek, and participation in the after-school healthy eating course with Louis and Catherine.
The impact of this program on our students' lives has been nothing short of profound. Their physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being has flourished, as evidenced by the radiant smiles on their faces and the palpable sense of excitement that accompanies them. The football development program, which is open to all, serves as a testament to our community's collaborative spirit, emphasizing inclusivity and diversity. It has created a climate where learning is not confined to the classroom but extends to sports, promoting personal growth, teamwork, and leadership skills that will benefit our students throughout their lives.
Belief in the transformative potential of integrating education and sport has been a longstanding tradition at Larkin Community College. It is a privilege for us to continue this legacy from our predecessors, knowing that we are not only shaping better athletes but also nurturing well-rounded, engaged, and empowered individuals who will contribute positively to our society.
W would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all who have made this remarkable journey possible.
We want to extend our appreciation to David O'Connor, Barry, Aaron, Damian, and the entire Shelbourne club. To the members of the committee, we extend thanks for your dedication and tireless efforts. Your vision, expertise, and commitment have been the bedrock upon which this program rests. Without your support, the realisation of this program's potential would have remained an elusive goal. Your contributions have been instrumental in guiding our program to its current level of success.
We must also express our deep gratitude to our generous funders, their support has been instrumental in bringing this program to life, providing opportunities for our students that might otherwise have remained out of reach, their willingness to invest in our students' futures is deeply appreciated. Their contributions have made a lasting impact on the lives of our students, and we are immensely grateful for their generosity.
Last but certainly not least, we extend a thank you to our remarkable staff, our dedicated students, and your supportive parents who have played an integral role in our journey. Your commitment to this program has been an inspiration, and your passion for the growth and development of our students is truly commendable. Your encouragement has made a significant difference in the lives of our students, and we are so grateful for your support and dedication.
Together, we have laid the foundation for a brighter future, where education and sport intertwine to create opportunities and empower our students to reach their full potential. The success of our football development program is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared vision and a commitment to the growth and well-being of our students.
