The Junior Cycle has been redesigned to include updated subjects and short courses, an emphasis on key skills, and innovative approaches to assessment and reporting. Schools now have greater flexibility to create Junior Cycle programmes that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs)
Throughout second and third year, students complete a series of Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs) along with Assessment Tasks.

Junior Cycle at Larkin Community College
Larkin Community College offers a diverse and opportunity rich Junior Cycle programme. All students will study the following core subjects:
- English
- Irish
- Mathematics
- Italian or Spanish
- CSR
- P-Tech
- Science
- History
- Geography
Additionally, all incoming 1st Year students have the opportunity to explore a range of optional subjects at the start of the year, including:
- Business Studies
- Visual Art
- Science
- Woodwork
- Music
This taster programme allows students to experience different subjects firsthand, helping them make informed decisions about which ones best suit their interests and abilities.
