Belvedere Youth Club Including two Larkin Students Feature in Uplifting Cyprus Documentary

Members of Belvedere Youth Club, including two Larkin students, Halle and Toni, recently travelled to the village of Pyla in Cyprus as part of a special cultural exchange that is featured in the new RTÉ documentary More Than a Game. The documentary highlights how young people can help build friendships and understanding across communities that have been divided for many years.

Pyla is the only village in Cyprus where Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots live together. During their visit, the Dublin teenagers met local young people, learned about Cyprus’s history and discovered that, despite different backgrounds, they share many of the same interests and ambitions.

The documentary also focuses on the Gateway Project, an initiative supported by the European Union and led by Garda Chief Superintendent Brian Woods. The project encourages respect and communication between communities by bringing people together through shared experiences.

Set against the history of Cyprus’s long standing division, More Than a Game shows the positive impact that friendship and understanding can have in creating a more united future.

More Than a Game: From D1 to Pyla airs on Monday, 13 July at 9.35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
