Celebrating Community Partnership and Youth Engagement
Yesterday, our Principal, Mairéad O’Brien, joined senior cycle students Whitney and Jodie, alongside Derek Cleary, Director of Localise, at the launch of this year’s Community Safety Fund, attended by Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan.
We are delighted to congratulate our partners at Localise, who have been awarded €74,000 to invest in projects that will make a positive difference in our local community.
The funding will support the Safe Neighbourhood Project, an initiative that recognises the important role young people can play in building safer, more connected communities. Through volunteering, early intervention and opportunities for meaningful participation, the project aims to promote empathy, strengthen self-worth, challenge anti-social behaviour and recognise the valuable skills young people develop through service to others.
Speaking about the project, Derek Cleary said: “The Safe Neighbourhood Project will put early empathy intervention and equitable pathways into action, using volunteering to tackle anti-social behaviour, strengthen self-worth and recognise the skills young people develop through service.”
At Larkin Community College, we recognise the importance of partnership, inclusion and empowering young people to make a positive contribution to society. We are proud to work alongside Localise in supporting initiatives that place young people at the heart of community development and create opportunities for them to thrive.
Congratulations to Derek and the Localise team on this fantastic achievement! We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this important work in our community.
