Second Year Coding Project

Take a look at the Flappy Bird Game written by Cara Andrea Bislig and Nikita Iljins second year Coding students at Larkin Community College, City of Dublin ETB.

To build their game Cara and Nikita learned to write code using event handlers to animate their sprites. In doing so they are developing the skills required as part of the Junior Cycle Coding in Action curriculum at Larkin Community College. By participating in Code.org sponsored activities Larkin Community College students have contributed to writing what is over 1 billion lines of code in under 3 months as part of the Hour of Code 2024 initiative.

Students at Larkin Community College have in the past enjoyed events similar to the Hour of Code. These include but are not limited to:

  • Design Thinking event with IBM Ireland

  • Bebras Challenge co-ordinated by the Irish Computer Society

  • European Astro Pi Challenge where students write computer programs that run on Raspberry Pi computers aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

These are just some of the STEM events Larkin Community College has participated in. All support the Pathways to Technology programme, (PTech Ireland) of which Larkin Community College is an educational partner.

Thank you Mr. Quinn for facilitating this project!
